Every Kid Needs a PAL
The motto for the Rancho Cordova Police Activities League (PAL) is “Every Kid Needs a PAL,” and this program shows how true that is!
Rancho Cordova PAL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that builds relationships between RCPD and youth through a variety of programs, at no cost to the kids. Each year, the program serves more than 1,200 kids in our community.
Kids learn vital skills such as teamwork and sportsmanship, create lasting friendships with each other, build trust with officers, give back to the community, and have fun! PAL kids have gone on to do great things from becoming a police officer to achieving success in education and sports.
“We’re in the business of people. We all have the same goal of being a great community, and that’s why we all have to work together,” said PAL Youth Services Officer Jose De La Cruz. “That’s where our influence as officers comes in. It’s with our youth where we see the greatest ability to be impactful.”
Here is a brief summary of some of PAL’s programs in Rancho Cordova:
- Jr. Giants: A free, non-competitive and coed baseball program for youth each summer that builds good sportsmanship, good nutrition, and the skills to be a good athlete. Eighteen teams and more than 300 children ages 5-13 participated in this year’s program.
- Scholarships: PAL provides scholarships to local middle schools to support students who have a desire to participate in sports programs but need a helping hand.
- Youth Leadership Council: Youth that live in Rancho Cordova and surrounding areas apply for this program that focuses on helping them become better leaders and be the change they want to see in the community.
