Roles, Responsibilities and Activities

The Planning Department does a number of things to ensure a well planned, attractive and sustainable community, and to respond to the needs of the community, including:

1. Development review: Reviewing planning applications for compliance with City standards and policies including Zoning, Specific Plans, and SPAs, and Design Guidelines
2. Advance planning: Support for policy changes including General Plan updates
3. Environmental review
4. Support to the Planning Commission

These functions help us carry out our goals to create a positive community image that promotes community investment and enhancement in both new and existing neighborhoods, promoting bicycle, pedestrian and transit friendliness, becoming a regional leader, and protecting our environment.
