November 6, 2018 City Council Election

The Nomination Period for the November 2018 General Municipal Election began on July 16, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. and closed August 10, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.

The City of Rancho Cordova General Municipal Election is held in November during even-numbered years. The City Council is composed of five Council Members. Council Members serve for staggered terms of four years. The next general municipal election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 for the purpose of electing two (2) members of the City Council.

The Write-In Candidate filing period is September 10th to October 23rd. Ballots are mailed to all voters on October 8th, and ballot drop-off locations are open on October 9th through Election Day.

Voting and Election Information

At the November election, two seats on the City Council (currently held by Mayor Linda Budge and Council Member Garrett Gatewood) will be up for election.  The remaining three seats on the City Council are currently held by Vice Mayor Robert McGarvey, Council Member David Sander, and Council Member Donald Terry.  Their terms end in November 2020.

Eligibility and Candidacy

To be eligible to run for office, a candidate must be a resident and registered voter of the City by the last day for filing of nomination papers.  Registered voters in Rancho Cordova must be U.S. citizens, residents of Rancho Cordova, 18 years of age or older on the date of the election, and not in prison or on parole for a felony conviction.

Voter Registration 

To find out if you are currently registered to vote, visit the webpage of the California Secretary of State.  Not registered to vote?  Register online at the California Secretary of State.

Re-registration is required if you have moved since you last registered, changed your name, or changed your political party affiliation.

The registration deadline is 15 days before an election. You may register to vote online at The California Secretary of State.  For more information, contact the Rancho Cordova City Clerk's office at (916) 851-8805 or contact the County of Sacramento Registration and Elections Department at (916) 875-6451.

As of August 10, 2018, there have been no ballot measures submitted for the November 6, 2018 Election.
