In winter of 2014, the Rancho Cordova City Council instructed staff to initiate contact with the Boys & Girls Club as a potential youth facility and services provider in the City of Rancho Cordova. After a series of informational meetings between staff and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento (BGCSAC) to help determine scope and timelines, staff executed a contract with BGCSAC to conduct a Pre-Development Study. The study was finalized and presented to the City Council on September 21, 2015 identifying a series of programs to best serve the youth of Rancho Cordova and the best options for long-term service delivery in Rancho Cordova.
The Pre-Development Study served two primary goals. First, it carefully and analytically showed the need for additional after-school programming in the City, which indicates that a Boys and Girls Club facility would be a long-term asset to the community. Second, it identifies the most immediate after school and summer youth needs, which is programming at Cordova High School, and proposes a program that can be ready as soon as January 2016 for implementation.
