The Rancho Cordova City Council unanimously appointed Cyrus Abhar as the new Rancho Cordova City Manager on Monday, November 2, 2015.
Cyrus served as Interim City Manager for four months following a vacancy in the position. Beforehand he served as the City’s Public Works Director and Chief Building Official. An employee since incorporation on July 1, 2003, Cyrus welcomes the opportunity to continue to grow Rancho Cordova into a fresh and thriving community.
He has more than 27 years experience in civil engineering, public works administration, and business management.
Before joining City staff, Cyrus managed his family’s contracting and construction management firm in Orange County, California. In the 90s, he held several management positions in the Sacramento County Transportation Department, including division chief and a project manager for the Department’s Operations and Maintenance Division. Cyrus started his professional career as a design engineer and project manager for civil engineering consulting firms in Texas and California.
Cyrus is a registered Professional Engineer and a licensed Land Surveyor and Professional Traffic Operations Engineer. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. In 2007, he was a member of the first Leadership Rancho Cordova class, a program sponsored by the City and Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce to develop community leaders.
Cyrus is a member of the Executive Team for the Highway 50 Corridor Partnership, the Agency Staff Advisory Committee for the Capital Southeast Connector, the Sacramento Central Groundwater Authority board of directors, and the American Public Works Association. He was on the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers for Designing the License Exam from 1999 to 2002.
In his spare time, Cyrus enjoys outdoor recreation including hiking and biking. He and his wife, Vida, have two children.
