It was with immense pride that the City of Rancho Cordova acquired the historic Matthew Kilgore Cemetery located on Kilgore Road between Trade Center Drive and Sun Center Drive.
It is rare to find such a rich, historical feature in the heart of a city. The cemetery was established in 1874 and incorporated in 1888. Along with the extended Kilgore family, there are many other pioneer founding family plots with names such as Deterding, Studarus, and Yost among the more than 150 people resting there. At the City Council Meeting on September 6, 2005, with several descendants of these pioneers in attendance, the County Historical Cemetery Association designated Matthew Kilgore Cemetery as a historical cemetery and presented a plaque to the City Council for placement at the property.
The City of Rancho Cordova has taken extensive steps to restore the historic cemetery. Its rededication in 2007 was a source of pride for the community and won several awards for creativity. Today, it is a beautiful resting place and a comfort for loved ones.
