Homicide Investigation in Rancho Cordova

Update February 13, 2020: Suspect in Custody

Homicide detectives have arrested 26-year-old Nicholas Brynelson of Rancho Cordova in the homicide of a woman in her 50’s. Brynelson was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

No motive information is available at this time. Detectives believe the suspect and victim were in a dating relationship.

Just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call from a male in the 3600 block of Manzanola Way who stated his girlfriend was unresponsive after having been in a physical altercation earlier in the day. Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Rancho Cordova Police Department responded and located a female at the residence with apparent trauma to her body. Deputies began life saving measures while fire personnel responded. After fire personnel arrived, the female was declared deceased at the scene.

Detectives are currently on scene, along with Crime Scene Investigators. At this time, no one is in custody and this is an active investigation.

The identity of the victim in this case will be made available by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office after notification has been made to next of kin.
