Chief of Police Announcement

Post Date:03/13/2020 3:08 PM

Many of our residents and business owners have had the pleasure of meeting and partnering with our city’s Chief of Police Chris Pittman. Chief Pittman has been a valued leader in our community, having served the City of Rancho Cordova for the last three years as Chief of Police and as Assistant Chief of Police in 2014.

Chief Pittman joined our city team in January 2017, and we are saddened to announce that the time has come for him to transition to another role within the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The city’s agreement with the Sheriff’s Office specifies that each Chief of Police shall be assigned to the City of Rancho Cordova for three years.

In the coming weeks, the city will interview new candidates for the position of Chief of Police. We plan to announce the new Chief of Police by the end of March. Chief Pittman will work with the new chief to ensure a smooth transition.

Please join us in thanking Chief Pittman for his dedication to serving the City of Rancho Cordova and further increasing the safety of our community. Chief Pittman implemented a community policing model and focused on data-driven policing, which resulted in a significant drop in crime. He has been committed to addressing public safety and quality of life issues by creating collaborative teams, such as our Homeless Outreach Team, who partner with residents and businesses to find solutions. He has been a champion of supporting the youth in our community by creating a Youth Services Unit within the Rancho Cordova Police Department and facilitating a new Youth Center in the city. He will be remembered as a Chief of Police who could always be seen building community relationships, who enjoyed conversing with residents and businesses, and who cared deeply about the City of Rancho Cordova.

We wish Chief Pittman the very best as he transitions to a new role within the Sheriff’s Office. He will be greatly missed by all of us!
