New Drumline Program Available at Mills Middle School

Post Date:01/05/2023 3:29 PM

With support from the city’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund, Mills Middle School now has its first drumline program! The class meets five days a week and is led by music instructor Jimmie Adams.

One drumline student, Scarlett Zendejas, told The Sacramento Bee, “I do enjoy how we can all connect through drums. We have a really good relationship with each other. It’s like we’re a big family.”

Through the program, students can learn how to play various drum instruments, such as the bass, tenor and snare drums. They will perform at school rallies, athletic games, local community events, parades and more. Drumline shows are unique in that they incorporate other forms of dance and movement, theatrical performances and artistic design.

Stacy Delaney, Senior Management Analyst at the City of Rancho Cordova, attended Mills Middle School—and even played in the school orchestra—and can attest to the importance of music and art.

“It’s so exciting to see a first-ever drumline program spark interest and passion in middle school students. They have a passionate teacher, high-quality equipment, and I look forward to seeing and hearing from them in the future.”

Stacy oversees the city’s Community Enhancement & Investment Fund which supports programs such as the drumline program and a variety of other projects from public safety to public works and more. Learn more at CityofRanchoCordova.org/CommunityEnhancementInvestment.
