Temperatures will be upwards of 90 degrees this weekend, and when it’s hot outside, it can be difficult for your pets to cool down. Here are a few important reminders from Sacramento County.

🐾 Please remember, on a hot or warm day, avoid long walks and leave your pet at home. Even in cool temperatures, the inside of a parked car can reach up to 100 degrees or more and on very hot days, temperatures can climb up to 140 degrees.

🐾 Don’t take your pets to crowded summer events. The heat, noise and crowds can be overwhelming to your pet. It is best to leave them at home in a quiet, cool environment.

🐾 Provide plenty of fresh and clean water for your pets.

🐾 Know the signs of heat stress including heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, staggering gait, vomiting, or a deep red or purple tongue.

🐾 If you suspect a dog on the inside of a parked car is suffering a heat-related illness, please take action by asking the employees of nearby businesses to make an announcement. Take down the make, model and license plate number of the vehicle and all 911. Stay with the dog until help arrives.
