Rancho Cordova Finalizes Vision and Guiding Principles for General Plan Update

Post Date:07/23/2025

Thanks to the voices of hundreds of community members, the City of Rancho Cordova has reached a milestone in its General Plan Update process: the Vision Statement and Guiding Principles that will frame the city’s growth and development through 2050 are now finalized.

Over the past year, the General Plan Update team has heard from more than 500 residents, business owners, and stakeholders through community workshops, surveys, pop-up events, and focus groups. This input helped shape a shared vision that reflects the community’s priorities and aspirations for Rancho Cordova’s future.

The newly adopted Vision Statement paints a picture of a vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming Rancho Cordova—one that celebrates its diversity, natural environment, and strong neighborhoods. It envisions a city that is connected by thoughtfully planned roads, trails, and open spaces, and is recognized throughout the region as a destination for jobs, culture, shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation.

The Guiding Principles will serve as the foundation for future decision-making, focusing on:

  • Creating vibrant gathering places

  • Promoting sustainability and smart land use

  • Supporting arts, culture, youth programs, and recreation

  • Encouraging diverse, walkable neighborhoods

  • Expanding mobility options for all

  • Strengthening economic prosperity

  • Investing in community safety and overall well-being

With the Vision and Guiding Principles now complete, the General Plan Update team is turning its attention to land use alternatives—different scenarios for how the city could grow and develop in the coming decades. Community Workshop #3 is planned for this fall and will offer another chance for the public to get involved and share feedback.
