Community in Action: Rancho Cordova Students Soar and Grow

Post Date:12/02/2025 1:46 PM

Rancho Cordova has long been known for its strong partnerships that uplift our community and enrich our local schools. That legacy continues today, as local businesses and volunteers work side by side with students to spark curiosity, support creativity, and help our campuses thrive.

The sky is the literal limit for a group of eighth grade students at Mills Middle School in Rancho Cordova. The students launched 100 rockets on campus last month in partnership with Solidgim, a company headquartered in Rancho Cordova that specializes in high-performance memory and storage solutions. Solidigm designs and manufactures products that power everything from data center to consumer electronics.

That spirit of innovation was on full display as rockets soared across the school’s field, with students cheering for their classmates’ creations.

Over at Cordova Meadows Elementary School, the community came together to give the school garden a fresh and new look, with the support and generosity of Lowe’s Home Improvement volunteers.

A team of seven volunteers — including Lowe’s associates and the parents of Principal Amber Fontaine — spent the day revitalizing the school garden by cleaning, sweeping, painting, staining the fence, and preparing the soil for new plants. Their hard work transformed the space into a welcoming outdoor area for students to enjoy.

The project was supported through Lowe’s Hometowns initiative, a nationwide effort to restore community spaces, which provided a grant for the improvements. In addition to their labor, volunteers donated nearly $4,000 in new tables, chairs, and benches.

With help from businesses and volunteers, the Rancho Cordova community continues to create inspiring spaces and opportunities for its students to learn, grow, and thrive.
