Community Food Hub of Rancho Cordova Celebrates Ribbon Cutting

New grocery-style food hub expands access to fresh food with dignity, choice and care

Post Date:05/20/2026 2:35 PM

The Community Food Hub of Rancho Cordova, formerly known as the Rancho Cordova Food Locker, celebrated its ribbon cutting today, marking a meaningful new chapter in how families throughout the community access fresh, healthy food.

The new 6,600-square-foot facility is designed to feel more like a neighborhood market than a traditional food distribution site. Families will be able to shop at no cost for fresh produce, pantry staples, dairy, protein, kid-friendly items and culturally familiar foods in a space created to reduce stigma and support choice.

The grand opening brought together elected officials, community partners, volunteers, supporters and residents to celebrate the new facility with remarks, a ribbon cutting and guided tours of the space.

“Today is about more than opening a new building,” said Rancho Cordova Mayor Garrett Gatewood. “This is about helping families feel supported, cared for and connected to their community. The Community Food Hub reflects what makes Rancho Cordova special, people coming together to support one another.”

The Community Food Hub builds on more than a decade of service by the Rancho Cordova Food Locker, which has grown from a volunteer-led effort into a nonprofit organization serving more than 1,500 families each week. As the need for food assistance continues to grow across the region, the new facility will help increase cold storage, food recovery capacity, volunteer infrastructure and community partnerships.

“This new space allows us to serve our neighbors in a way that is rooted in dignity and choice,” said Carrie Johnson, Executive Director of the Rancho Cordova Food Locker. “Every family deserves access to healthy food in an environment where they feel respected and welcomed. We are grateful to the City of Rancho Cordova, our partners, volunteers and supporters who helped make this vision a reality.”

Part of the funding for the project came through a collaborative effort between the Rancho Cordova Food Locker and the City of Rancho Cordova to leverage existing investments and secure Community Enhancement and Investment Fund grant dollars. The project also reflects the support of funders, volunteers, construction partners, civic leaders and community organizations who worked together to bring the Food Hub to life.

The facility includes a grocery-style shopping area, expanded fresh food storage, food recovery infrastructure, volunteer support areas, mural artwork and community-centered spaces designed to reflect the heart and diversity of Rancho Cordova.

The Community Food Hub is located at 2771 Don Juan Drive in Rancho Cordova.
