Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) can be a danger to humans, pets and our environment. HHW is the leftover portion of household products that contain toxic chemicals, such as paint, cleaners and products with warning labels. These wastes cannot be disposed of in your regular garbage.

Locations

Residents can drop-off their HHW at any of these locations for free:

Curbside Battery Collection

You can recycle your household batteries with Atlas Disposal by putting them in a sealed bag and placing the bag on top of your blue recycling cart.

• Only household batteries (dry cell, alkaline, rechargeable, 9V, lithium, etc.) are allowed in this program. Lithium batteries MUST be taped at both ends to reduce the risk of fire.
• Batteries MUST be placed in a sealed plastic bag, (such as Ziploc).
• Place your sealed bag on top of your recycling container on collection day. No appointment is required.

Curbside Oil & Oil Filter Collection

You can recycle your used motor oil/oil filters with Atlas Disposal on your regular collection day.

Guidelines:

• A maximum of three gallons of oil will be collected at each pickup.
• Place the oil and oil filter recycling containers on the ground next to your blue recycling or green organics waste cart. Do not place them on or in your cart.
• Atlas Disposal will provide free containers to recycle used motor oil and oil filters upon request. Contact Atlas Disposal at 916.288.2800 or via email at rccustomerservice@atlasdisposal.com to order a container.
• If you are using your own container, the oil must be placed in a clear plastic jug with a secured lid with the lid taped shut. Oil filters may be placed in a sealed plastic bag (such as a Ziploc).
• Do not place used motor oil in milk cartons or any other containers that will not properly contain oil.
• Do not place used oil/filters with your bulky item pickup.

Curbside Sharps Collection

You can properly dispose of your home-generated sharps with Atlas Disposal on your regular collection day. 

Guidelines:

• Pickups are by appointment only. Do not place sharps containers out for collection without scheduling a pickup.
• Home-generated sharps, syringes, lancets, scalpels, and any needle/sharp object used for healthcare purposes, must be placed in an approved sharps container. The lid must be secured prior to placing it out for collection.
• Residents also have the option to mail back their sharps for a fee.
