Here is a brief of summary of business recycling and food waste composting laws that impact City of Rancho Cordova businesses.

State of California Assembly Bill  341 – Mandatory Commercial Recycling (Effective July 1, 2012)

This State law requires:

  • Businesses that subscribe to four cubic yards or more of garbage service per week are required to have recycling collection service. 
  • Establishes a State of California goal to reduce waste sent to landfill by 75%. 

State of California Assembly Bill  1826 – Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling (Effective January 1, 2016)

This State law requires:

  • Businesses that throw away four cubic yards or more per week of organic waste (food, green waste and food soiled paper) are required to have organic waste collection service.
  • Property owners and managers are required to provide training and educational information to employees and customers. 

City of Rancho Cordova Business and Multi-family Recycling Ordinance  

In response to the new State laws, the Rancho Cordova City Council approved a Business and Multi-family Recycling Ordinance. Failure to participate in recycling and/or food waste composting may result in City fines.
