Stormwater Program
The City of Rancho Cordova is home to six miles of the American River, as well as 41 miles of creeks and channels, some of which flow directly into the river. The city’s Stormwater Division protects these waterways by preventing pollutants from entering the drainage system.
This includes operating and maintaining:
- Six pump stations
- Eight regional detention basins
- 254 miles of drainage pipes
- 7,740 drainage inlets
- 4,370 manholes
- 70 acres of creek channels and tributaries
Through this program, the City of Rancho Cordova aims to educate the city's residents and businesses on the importance of proper stormwater practices so we can keep our community clean for everyone to enjoy.
Additional Responsibilities
The Stormwater Division also coordinates emergency response activities, responds to customer service requests and coordinates with other agencies including the Department of Fish and Wildlife for all permitting requirements.
In addition, the city collaborates with Sacramento County and other surrounding jurisdictions to monitor and reduce pollution. These stakeholders are referred to as the Sacramento Stormwater Quality Partnership.
Storm Drain Facility Maps
Maps of storm drain facilities throughout the City of Rancho Cordova are available through our Open Data Portal Public Works Viewer. To view storm drains throughout the city, select “Drainage Layers” in the drop drown menu within the Public Works Layers on the right-hand side of the viewer. To access the individual layers with attribute information, visit our Open Data portal and download all nine layers using the “Drainage” tag on the left-hand side of the map.
For encroachment permits and new development projects, please ensure that the planned improvements adhere to minimum clearance requirements for drainage.
If you would like to receive pdf copies of the storm drain facility map pages or as-built drawings, a public records request can be submitted through the City Clerk’s Department.
Stormwater Utility Fee
Stormwater services that are provided by the city are funded by the Stormwater Utility Fee that residents and businesses pay into. Customers' bi-monthly Consolidated Utilities Billing & Service (CUBS) bills from Sacramento County include a Stormwater Utility charge for drain and flood control services.
For more information on the Stormwater Utility Fee and rates, refer to Chapter 15.10 of the Rancho Cordova Municipal Code.
