The City of Rancho Cordova is planning for the future of transportation—and we want your input.

As more residents, businesses, and fleets transition to electric vehicles (EVs), the City is developing an EV Charging Needs Assessment and Network Plan to ensure charging infrastructure is accessible, reliable, and equitably distributed across the community.

This effort will identify current gaps, understand community needs, and create a roadmap to expand EV charging citywide—especially in areas where access is currently limited.

The EV Charging Needs Assessment and Network Planning effort will guide the growth and placement of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Rancho Cordova.

This project will:

• Evaluate existing EV charging stations across the city
• Identify gaps in access and infrastructure
• Understand barriers to EV adoption
• Forecast future charging demand
• Develop a strategic network plan for future investment

The plan will consider a range of charging types, including Level 1, Level 2, and DC Fast Chargers, and will focus on expanding access for residents, businesses, and visitors.

This project is supported by regional funding and aligns with the City’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support a cleaner, healthier community.

Why This Matters

Electric vehicles are a key part of reducing emissions and improving air quality—but access to charging remains uneven.

In Rancho Cordova and across the region:

• Many residents in apartments or multi-family housing lack access to home charging
• Small businesses and fleets face cost and infrastructure barriers
• Public charging stations are still limited in some areas

This plan will help ensure that everyone—regardless of where they live or work—has access to convenient EV charging options.

• Barriers to installation (cost, permitting, infrastructure)
• Utility and grid capacity considerations

Future Planning

• Forecasting future EV demand
• Identifying priority locations for new chargers
• Recommending charger types and placement

Policy & Programs

• Incentives and funding opportunities
• Policies to support EV adoption
• Strategies to support businesses and residents

Equity & Access

A key focus of this plan is ensuring equitable access to EV charging.

The City is prioritizing:

• Multi-family housing residents
• Disadvantaged and underserved communities
• Workplace and fleet charging opportunities
• Publicly accessible charging locations

This approach ensures that the benefits of clean transportation are shared across the entire community—not just those with access to private garages.
