The City of Rancho Cordova has seen many residents, businesses, schools and community organizations stepping up to help during this difficult time and wants to share these stories throughout our community! If you have unique and inspiring ways Rancho Cordova residents and businesses are coming together during this unprecedented time, we encourage you to share your stories on social media using the hashtag #RanchoCordovaInspires.

Plus, the city has created a new Facebook profile frame to encourage our community to share their stories and to raise awareness about the inspiration all around us. We encourage you to add the frame to your profile (simply click on your profile edit button, choose “add frame,” and search and choose #RanchoCordovaInspires).

Rancho Cordova Business, Dream Arcades, Makes and Donates Face Masks

A Rancho Cordova business, Dream Arcades has recently gone from making custom home arcade games and claw machines to making face masks and shields.

Although they have received offers to pay for the masks and shields, business owners Mike and Michelle have donated them to local businesses, healthcare workers and first responders in an effort to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

“If everyone does a little bit, we can really make a big difference,” said Mike.

Mike also explained that by making face shields and masks, they were also able to keep their staff employed and working. Learn more

Cordova High School Celebrates Seniors with a Drive Through Ceremony

Congratulations to all of the Cordova High School seniors who celebrated their graduation this morning with a drive-through ceremony. It was a wonderful morning with students, teachers, City Council Members, Rancho Cordova PD and community members alike. Thank you for reminding us of all of the different ways that #RanchoCordovaInspires. Congrats, graduates!

Local NEC Office and Republic Services Offer Support

Rancho Cordova businesses have continued to go above and beyond to support the local community and their employees and demonstrate different ways that #RanchoCordovaInspires.

Local NEC office hosts drive-through food drive:

Employees from the Rancho Cordova branch of NEC Corporation of America, a global communications and technology company, hosted a drive-through food drive that resulted in 1,460 pounds of donated food and enough personal hygiene items to put together 64 hygiene kits. The food and kits will be distributed by Blessings in a Backpack, a non-profit that distributes food and other supplies to children in need over the weekends when school assistance is not available.

Republic Services thanks employees by providing meals and gift cards from local businesses:

For the last six weeks, Republic Services spent $20 million nationwide to thank and support their 28,000 frontline workers by providing each employee with lunch and family dinners once a week and by giving each employee a $100 gift card to a local business every other week. Food Support for Rancho Cordova Seniors and High-Risk Individuals

Great Plates is a new program created by Governor Newsom that provides seniors and those vulnerable to COVID-19 with three free nutritious meals delivered daily. This new program is a great way to get healthy food during the stay-at-home order.

This program will be available May 5, 2020, through June 10, 2020 – unless extended. To find out if you or someone you know may qualify for this program, visit https://bit.ly/2WDQcPw.

Symphony d'Oro Offers Virtual Experience for Fans at Home

Like many other community organizations, Symphony D'Oro Rancho Cordova has found a creative way to offer a virtual experience for fans at home and is demonstrating how #RanchoCordovaInpires.

The symphony is now offering an informative and entertaining video series featuring Conductor Pete Nowlen. In the debut video on April 9, Nowlen demonstrated how to play various instruments, such as the conch shell and the French horn. He will return on April 23 at 7:30 PM with a lively presentation on the history of musical instruments. Learn more.

KP International Market Goes Above and Beyond

KP International Market, a Rancho Cordova business since 2003, has gone above and beyond to meet the needs of our community by donating 300 N95 face masks to the Rancho Cordova Food Locker, over 300 N95 face masks to Rancho Cordova PD, and 1,000 pairs of gloves to Summerset Senior Living facility. The market has also continued to make its regular food donations to the Rancho Cordova Food Locker. Their donations range from one or two grocery carts of food to a large pallet. Thin Line Brewing Company Makes a Special Delivery

Last week, Cory, the owner of Thin Line Brewing Company in Rancho Cordova, celebrated her birthday by helping someone else celebrate his.

Cory was not feeling very excited about her birthday this year until she received a message from a customer. The customer, who is from San Luis Obispo, shared that it was also her brother Jason’s birthday. Jason is a teacher here and has been taking care of his nephews and niece for his brother and sister-in-law who are a firefighter and emergency room nurse, respectively, in San Diego. When this customer asked if Cory would make a special delivery to Jason, she was more than excited to surprise him. Learn more

Blessings in a Backpack Distributes Food to Local Students

Local nonprofit, Blessings In A Backpack, envisions a community where all children receive the nourishment they need to learn and grow. To achieve this goal, they partner with organizations and mobilize individuals and groups throughout Rancho Cordova to provide meals for children in need to ensure they are fed over the weekend. With schools closed due to the current Public Health Orders, the need has increased and Blessings in a Backpack has risen to the occasion by distributing free food to local students. Learn more

Sunriver Neighborhood Toy Bear Hunt 

Rancho Cordova’s Sunriver neighborhood, using the power of social media, created a fun and entertaining way for families to pass the time while staying safe. Toy bear hunts have livened up family walks as children and adults alike search for the elusive hiding spots of stuffed, statue and paper bears in windows and on lawns and porches. More than an “I spy” game, families have tapped into their creativity by crafting their own bears and creating challenging hiding spots to test their friends and neighbors. Join the fun by creating your own neighborhood toy bear hunt.

Sacramento Mandarins Host Drive-Thru Dinners

The Sacramento Mandarins, new to Rancho Cordova, but in operation for over 33 years, has begun hosting drive-thru dinners and is providing warm meals to long-time senior citizen customers. They are also encouraging local organizations to consider their new facility as a community asset to be used during this difficult time.

Personal Hygiene Kits for Local Students

Folsom Cordova Unified School District and A4 Promotions, a company with a warehouse in Rancho Cordova, are collecting toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and other items to distribute personal hygiene kits to students in need. Donations have been made by residents, various community groups and businesses, but they are still accepting donations. Learn more

COVID-19 Innovation from Rancho Cordova's ThermoGenesis Holdings, Inc.

On March 31, 2020, Rancho Cordova business ThermoGenesis Holdings, Inc. announced that they are working on a new rapid testing kit for COVID-19. The kit is intended for professional use and would deliver results in less than 10 minutes. Learn more

Rancho Cordova Distilleries Produce and Sell Hand Sanitizer

At the end of March, J.J. Pfister Distilling Company and Gold River Distillery each began producing and selling hand sanitizer instead of the usual gin, vodka, rum and brandy. Learn more

Rancho Cordova resident Maggie Parsons, M.D., in partnership with the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society, shows how the community can help remedy the surgical mask shortage for medical personnel by sewing surgical masks and dropping them off at Dermatology Consultants of Sacramento, 5340 Elvas Avenue, Suite 600, Sacramento. Learn more
